About Us
Who we are
A group of Christians from all walks of life: we are executives, professionals, self-employed,unemployed, retired, at-home parents, working single parents. Some are born Canadians, some of us are immigrants; some of us can sing, some cannot! We are not wheelchair accessible, but do a have a lift for those with reduced mobility. Some are sports fans, others not so much. Our eldest member is in her 80's, our youngest has to hold up fingers to tell you. Some of us have been blessed with stable homes and few challenges in life, others come from broken homes and are recovering from addictions and other issues. Whoever you are, you will be most welcome here. |
What we believe
As Christians we have come to recognize that God, the creator, came into this world in human form in the person of Jesus. His message of love and forgiveness calls each of us to live lives reflective of the pattern Jesus taught. We also realize that God's spirit is present in every human life and, if we so choose, it can be a powerful influence on us.
Of course, within our community you will find a variety of beliefs and practices, but we all share the common bond of the love that Jesus has shown to each one of us. Visit the Helping Others and TCS pages so see our beliefs in action! |
How we got here
Yes, "Christian Baptist" is a strange name for a church. Founded in 1822, we were originally part of the Christian Church movement (believing that the separation of denominations was a mistake - we are all brothers and sisters in Christ).
In the 1950's the Newmarket Christian and Newmarket Baptist churches joined together and decided to merge their names, and become a member church of the Canadian Baptists of Ontario & Quebec (CBOQ).
We are still active in this denomination, as well as in the Newmarket ministerial and other groups in the area. See our Helping Others page for more details. |
